Putting Your House in Order

(Results of a disordered mind on the people who make up society - results of an ordered mind in the people and the effect on society - the corrupting effect of disorder)

Some might ask: ‘What does it matter if my mind is in a state of disorder?’ A quick glance around at the chaos which is called ‘society’ now, will be the answer. See our poisoned politics; our greed-based banking systems; our dwindling health systems; our inadequate housing stock; our stale, chemical-laden food; our overpopulation; our polluted air; our contaminated sea; our poisoned land; our inequalities; our lack of freedom; our heartbreak, our despair, our anger; our perceived ‘us’ and ‘them’…

If that isn’t enough consider the minority with the money and the power that money gives them and who now possess practically everything material in our world. However, our hearts and our minds are immaterial and not for sale. When we put our inner house – our hearts and minds - in order we will save our society from the growing evil and make it a free, just, caring and sharing society based on the principles of right living.

A mind in a state of disorder tends to look outside of itself for ‘order’ and relies more and more on the authoritarian order of corrupting politicians ‘leaders’, newspapers, the media, ‘gurus’, religious belief systems and as a result is open to coercion from these others, many of whom have ulterior motives not often useful for the disordered seeker. These disordered people lead a second-hand life of doing what others tell them is good for them. Look at the results of their disorder. It is all around us in the chaos that is now called ‘society’.

Most people believe that ‘putting their inner house in order’ is an impossible task or, at least, extremely difficult in our hectic society. The aim of this website is to facilitate the raising awareness in the participants minds of their ‘inner house’; their inner lives; their awareness of their thoughts, preconceptions, judgments, biases, egocentric perspectives, reactions in their perceived ‘selves’ – their minds - and also be consciously aware that their, and our, way of thinking is responsible for all the ills in our world society and which can only get worse unless a radical change happens soon.

The few intelligent, concerned people who see the horror of our world society now realize that what is urgently needed now is a paradigm shift in consciousness. This is not beyond any intelligent, thoughtful, concerned person. The intention is to enable participants to see, for themselves, the current disorder themselves and consequently in our society and and take the step toward a safer, caring, sustainable future for everyone regardless of social position, gender, race or politics.

No-one can change society for the good if they haven’t first put their inner thoughts, their inner house, into a suitable order – as EF Schumacher and some other thoughtful, intelligent people have suggested. It would be like a selfish, unbalanced person running a bank or a country – as if we need to think about that today. Simply look at the politicians of the last few hundred years with their obviously pointless, unintelligent ideas, and the corrupted state that the banks are in… We people must change this, not from the top but from the grass root elements of society; we, the people, who make up our world society. Changing society from the top is like moving worn out old furniture around the same worn out old room.

Society is in a parlous state with a few, rich and powerful, selfish and intellectually limited people destroying the resources of our world for their own personal gain and profit. We are all powerful people but most of us are unaware of this. If people are aware of this then they will look after their world, our world, more and see the despoiling of our world by the few, greedy and thoughtless people who ‘rape and pillage’ the resources, animal, vegetable and mineral, of our world for their own selfish, personal and short-term gains.

We have been conditioned to believe that we are all individuals. This is mainly untrue and the source of many, if not all, of our pressing problems today. We have been conditioned to think that we are only on this earth for a very short term and maybe this is causing the short-termism that is destroying our world.

It can be said, and has been by some far-sighted philosophers, that humanity took a wrong turn many years ago - as their (and our) brains and minds developed. It could be that we are in this present sociopolitical, economic, ecological chaotic mess because of this and nothing will change human beings until they change their unhelpful, destructive ‘mind set’. We are all, every one of us, set on a program of destruction – as can be seen by anyone looking around at the depletion of the world resources by the few greedy, rich and powerful human-beings who behave unintelligently, and who will succeed soon in destroying our world and our present world society.

When people start to see the order in truth then they will start to live as true human beings, caring for each other and the world in which we all live and all depend upon.

EF Schumacher’s final words in Small is Beautiful are: ‘People ask what can I actually do? The answer is simple: Put your inner house in order.’

Start now.
